What Lets the Light In

Every Noah Kahan song.
And while we’re at it, Olivia Dean too.
And Sara Bareilles.
Wait, that’s a different poem.

Eerily accurate horoscopes.

Honey so good
it belongs on everything.

Snuggles with a pup.
Scratch that. MY pup.

Sunrises and sunsets
that take your breath away.
Preferably in the same day.

Friends who send reels
just because they knew I’d get
the punchline or poignancy.

A daughter who sends TikToks that say,
“You’re a good mom.”

A commute without construction.
I’m assuming. Hasn’t happened yet.

The first open-window day
after an Arizona summer.
And the three times we light
the fireplace in the winter.

A pretty bird who lingers for a photo
as if she wants you to remember her.

Friends who try something new with you,
not for the thing,
but for the with-you.

Loving a poem enough to share it
with the people who understand.
Because the light gets in
the same way for them.
